One good point regarding the prisons:
Benefits. The health insurance is great. There's retirement also.

My health insurance, by comparison, sucks, and we have been told today it's only getting worse when it renews next month.
Currently we have a lovely $1000 per person deductible, and after that we have a 20% copay on all services. No vision. No dental.

An example on how that might play out: a co-worker was telling us today that her bill for giving birth a couple of years ago was $17,000. Under this year's plan, that bill would have cost her $4200 out of pocket. There are approximately 15 prenatal visits involved at about $100 each not including separate sonogram bills. That adds about $300, for a total of $4500 out of pocket. (Not that I'm expecting you to give birth any time soon, but it was just a real life example I had available to share.)
And I work for an insurance agency!

Indian Dad's hospital bill from December when he had pneumonia was $8000. If he had my insurance we'd have had to pay $2400. For one day in the hospital - pretty realistic this could happen to any of us.
